" Design is a plan for arranging elements in such a way as best to accomplish a particular purpose." -Charles Eames
Jack and Jennifer's House Design
This was a project where we had to design a 4,000 sq./ft. home. The home consisted of covered porch, patio, front porch, great room and dining room, kitchen, pantry, laundry room, mud room, foyer, half bath, home office plus an on-suite, master bedroom plus an on-suite and closet, girls room plus an on-suite and closet and boys room plus an on-suite and a closet. We had to choose all materials, furnishings and lighting. I have included the furniture plan, lighting plan and design boards for the kitchen, master bedroom, boys room and bathroom and closet, girls room and bathroom and closet, home office, mudroom, pantry and laundry. I chose warm neutral colors throughout the house except for the daughter’s room. I included a wet bar in the great room and added a walk-in closet for the home office.
Scott and Amy's Tree House Design
Scott and Amy are looking to build a lake house on Lake Burton. They want three bedrooms and two baths and would like the house to have a rustic design. My plan for Scott and Amy is to build them their dream home on stilts over-looking the lake. The deck surrounding the lake will be built around two Maple Trees, giving them the feeling that they are living in the trees. The siding is made of Hardy Plank in a Mahogany Red finish. The decking will compliment this finish. The house is a rectangle shape and there is a wraparound deck surrounding the home. The front side of the house looks like the back, because the house faces the lake. As you walk in the front door, immediately to your left is a guest bedroom and on your right through double glass doors will be Scott’s office. Next to the office is a half bath and on the left, will be the Master bedroom. The hallway opens to a large family room and kitchen and beyond that there are huge sliding doors plus to windows that open to the deck overlooking the lake. The cabinets are maple and the finish is called warm cinnamon. The countertops are marble and there is a huge 6 ft. long island in the middle that will seat 6. The walls are painted a light sage green with white trim. The sofa is a warm suede grey and the leather recliners are a chestnut color. I accented the bedrooms in blue which looks great against the wood tones in the furniture. The office has a cozy masculine feel with a grey blue rug, large wood desk, beautiful mosaic credenza and there is even a door which leads outside. There is plenty of storage space throughout the entire house and a washer and dryer is off the kitchen.

King and Delina's Bathroom Renovation
My plan for King and Selina’s bathroom will comprise of whites, gray, and black. On the walls surrounding the shower, tub and back splash will be white porcelain tile in a diamond pattern and the remaining walls will be painted a warm white. The cabinet will be white and two mirrors will be above each vessel sink. The countertop is black and white swirl marble that adds contrast to the space. The fixtures and hardware will be made of stainless steel. I have added a wood shelf with accessories above the toilet and a gold rug in the center to help anchor the space. For the lighting, I will have two ceiling lights plus two sconces on either side of the mirrors that will add plenty of light for the space.
King and Selina's Kitchen Renovation
King and Selina want to renovate their kitchen and are open about the design. They want to remove the wall that’s between the kitchen and family room and want to keep the dining area. I have created 2 different options for them to choose. The first option is removing the wall and adding an island in the middle that will have warm cherry cabinets with a vertical grain line and a white marble countertops that adds contrast to the space. The backsplash is a beautiful white marble tile in a pebble design that adds texture and movement throughout. I have selected maple wood for the flooring that is a few shades lighter than the cabinets as not to compete. Above the dining table is a stunning large pendant light that immediately draws your eye it and small pendant lights above the island. The fixtures and appliances are all stainless steel which creates a cohesive, seamless design throughout the space. The high back stools at the island have cherry wood finish with white fabric. The table in the space is square with a cherry wood finish. The second option is similar, but the wall cabinets are white and the island is a dark wood. The countertops are marble and the flooring, lighting and fixtures are the same as the first option.
